Pipedrive UTM tracking, through the form on your own page

Pipedrive's own web forms render in a frame nothing on your page can fill, so the attribution travels another way: TraceLead fills hidden inputs on the form you host, and the connection that already sends that form to Pipedrive carries the channel, campaign and landing page into your fields.

No card needed. No lead caps on any plan.

Pipedrive web forms and UTM parameters: why the form stays blank

Pipedrive web forms and LeadBooster forms are drawn inside Pipedrive's own frame. A script on your page cannot reach the inputs inside it, so no snippet, ours included, can put the source there.

The route that does work starts with a form that renders on your page: a WordPress form, a Webflow form or plain HTML, sent on to Pipedrive by that tool, Zapier or Make. Then one problem is left, the one every UTM script has: by the time the visitor enquires from /contact, the tags have gone from the URL.

Two visits, one enquiry Sample data
  1. Monday Clicks a Google ad, lands on /pricing?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=brand-uk&gclid=…, leaves.
  2. Thursday Types your address, opens /contact, sends your form, which goes on to Pipedrive.
Hidden field Read from the URL Filled by TraceLead
tl_channel empty paid_search
tl_source empty google
tl_utm_campaign empty brand-uk
tl_gclid empty Cj0KCQjw…
tl_landing_page /contact /pricing?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc

TraceLead keeps the first visit in a first-party cookie on your own domain once your banner allows it, and fills your form's hidden inputs on whichever page it is sent from.

How to set up Pipedrive UTM tracking

One step in Pipedrive, one on your form, one in the tool that sends the form to Pipedrive.

The full Pipedrive guide
  1. Create the fields in Pipedrive

    Open Company settings → Data fields and add text fields to Lead/Deal or Person: TraceLead channel, TraceLead source, TraceLead campaign and the others you want to report on.

  2. Add hidden inputs to your own form

    On the form that renders on your page, add a hidden input for each value, named tl_ plus the field, and put the TraceLead tag on the site:

    <input type="hidden" name="tl_channel">
    <input type="hidden" name="tl_source">
    <input type="hidden" name="tl_medium">
    <input type="hidden" name="tl_utm_campaign">
    <input type="hidden" name="tl_landing_page">

    In TraceLead, choose Start from a preset → Pipedrive to write the mappings for these inputs in one go.

  3. Map each tl_ input to its Pipedrive field

    In the form tool's Pipedrive connection, or the Zapier or Make scenario that creates the person, lead or deal, map tl_channel to TraceLead channel and so on, exactly as you map the name and email.

  4. Connect your cookie banner and test

    Nothing is stored or filled until the visitor agrees. Pick your consent manager in TraceLead or call tracelead('consent', true) from your banner, then visit with ?utm_source=test&utm_medium=cpc, accept, send a test enquiry and open the record in Pipedrive.

Pipedrive lead source fields: what arrives

The Pipedrive preset maps these eight inputs. Each arrives in Pipedrive as a plain text value you can filter lists and build reports on.

Also available: utm_term, utm_content, the Google, Microsoft, Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok and X click ids and the referring site, each as another tl_ input.

Hidden input on your form Holds
tl_channel The channel the first visit came from
tl_source Where it came from
tl_medium How it came
tl_utm_source The utm_source on the first visit
tl_utm_medium The utm_medium on the first visit
tl_utm_campaign The campaign name from your UTM tags
tl_landing_page The first page seen, sensitive parameters removed
tl_first_touch_at When the first visit happened

Attribution without personal data. No names, emails, form values, IP addresses or user agents. Ever.

No privacy workarounds. Nothing before consent, no fingerprinting, no ad-blocker bypass, no cross-site identity.

Made in the UK. GBP pricing, UK consent rules in mind, and a person who answers email.

Can Pipedrive web forms capture UTM parameters?

Not from a script on your page. Pipedrive web forms and LeadBooster forms render inside Pipedrive's own frame, which nothing outside it can fill. Collect the enquiry on a form that renders on your page and send it to Pipedrive through that form tool's Pipedrive connection, Zapier or Make.

How do I track lead source in Pipedrive?

Create text fields for the values under Company settings, Data fields, add hidden inputs named tl_channel, tl_source and so on to your own form, and map each one to its Pipedrive field in the connection that sends the form to Pipedrive.

Should the fields go on the person, the lead or the deal?

Wherever you report from. The fields can live on Lead/Deal or on Person; whichever you choose, map each tl_ input to the matching field when you set up the connection.

What does the Pipedrive preset do?

It writes mappings for the core fields (channel, source, medium, the three main UTM values, landing page and first-touch time) to hidden inputs named tl_<field> on your form. You can edit or remove each row afterwards.

Does TraceLead connect to Pipedrive?

No. TraceLead keeps no Pipedrive credentials and never writes to Pipedrive. The snippet fills the hidden inputs on your page; your form tool sends them on with the rest of the enquiry.

What do visitors without UTM tags show as?

They are still classified, from the click id or the referrer: a Google search arrives as google / organic, a link from ChatGPT usually as chatgpt.com / referral, a typed address as direct. The rules are published in the docs.
